Family Planning Allowance Rules Tax exemption For, Railways, BSNL, Central Govt. Employee Under 7th Pay Commission

Family Planning Allowance is one of the recent steps taken by the government to check the growing population of the country. This is merely an allowance that was being provided to government employees who had three or more children. Later it was reduced for the employees who had two children.

To become eligible for the family planning allowance, you will have to undergo sterilization. For men this is vasectomy, while for women this is tubectomy. Both these processes are irreversible and to obtain the allowance you will have to undergo these while you are appointed.

  • Family Planning Allowance Rules For Central Govt. Employee 

  • Age limit: under this rule the male employees must not be more than 50 years of age and their spouse should be between 20 to 45 years of age. This means that the members should all be between the reproductive age group to avail this benefit. The female employees on the other hand should not be more than 45 years of age and her spouse should be less than 50.
  • No.of children: the no. of children is a great factor here. It is a must that the employees have less than 3 but more than 1 children (or up to 3 children prior to 21.017.1999). So if one happens to have twins after the first surviving child, then also a person is eligible for admission under this rule.
  • Incentive amount: the amount for the incentive is subject to the post you have held at the time of the sterilization. It must be noted here that if you had the operation before admission to the central government as an employee, you will not be rewarded.
  • Hospital certification mandatory: you will only receive the benefits if you produce the hospital certificate of sterilization. It must be issued by any competent government authorized hospital for it to be effective.
  • Family Planning Allowance Rules For BSNL and Railway employees

The family planning allowance for the BSNL employees remained unchanged as of recently. For the railways employees on the other hand, the things are a little bit more complicated. They will only be granted the benefits if the sterilization as done on or after 4.12.1979. If a candidate is serving in deputation outside the cadre, then also he or she will be eligible for this incentive under the railways. The rest of the rules and regulations have to be followed as per the department in both BSNL and Railways, while the eligibility criteria remain the same for all.

  • Family Planning Allowance Is taxable Or Not :

Family planning allowance is fully taxable. This means that this incentive is not above tax. You will have to pay taxes on the incentives you receive.
